The Sound of Young America, an independe…
The Sound of Young America is an independent public radio show that gets most of it’s traffic and interest from it’s website, and by podcasting it’s content, rather than from the few stations that broadcast the show. (I’m not saying that as well as I’d like to)
Jessie Thorn is big on podcasting, and does special engagements with his friends from You Look Nice Today ( http://youlooknicetoday.com/ ) and his other show, Jordan Jesse Go! ( http://maximumfun.org/shows/jordan-jesse-go ) under the banner of Monsters of Podcasting.

Mind you, since he is a public radio program, he has the support of stations (like WNYC) that broadcast his show. Which you and I don’t necessarily have. But it’s good to see that podcasting audiences will turn out for these shows (YLNT is one of the funniest podcasts I have ever heard, and TSOYA and JJGO! are both great listens). A lot of that can be attributed to Jessie Thorn’s hard work and dedication to the craft, as well as his belief in the mediums of radio and podcasting.
By way of disclosure, TSOYA is the only public radio show I have ever donated to, and do so happily. It’s a great show, and has built a true community of listeners. Check out his site.
